Travels

I have scheduled an early autumn trip to the United States. I can’t wait for it. There are so many people and views to see and foods to eat. Originally I booked a flight using my own mileage. In the ensuing weeks it dawned on me how foolhardy that was—I am surely able to make this trip a legitimate business enterprise while also having good non-work times. So yesterday I cancelled the reward trip and booked a regular trip. The pricing seems to have gotten a little better: HND ⇔ SLC round trip for 219,000 yen. I go through Detroit on the way there and Seattle on the way back, when the timing is more sensitive. That price is of course still higher than what used to be the high end of around 150,000 yen. But with yen depreciation I suppose it isn’t too far off. No big complaints.

I will run the St. George Marathon on October 7. I hate running with other people, so it should be great. I do want to experience a marathon, so I look forward to it. I wonder if the air of Southern Utah will even permit me to sweat, after so much 70%+ humidity. I want to weigh 65-70kg by then. Current heft is 78. Running a marathon right before a transpacific flight is going to be good. I love having a long time to sit around when the muscles have taken a beating. My exit-row seat should also let me stand up and stretch to avoid death.

After arriving back I will have a work trip to Niigata. Right now I look forward to it. The place and clients are always nice to see. But by the time I return home the family will have moved on with life in my absence. My suitcase-load of Cheerios and Twix will have to win their hearts anew.
